08 November 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA – THE Nigerian government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, with two Chinese firms for the execution of two hydro power plants in the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State and Zungeru in Niger State.

The two companies are Sino Hydro and the China National Electric Equipment Corporation, which will handle the construction of the plants.

A Nigerian firm, Sunrise Power and Transmission Company, which originally won the contract for Mambilla, will partner the Chinese firms to supply the local components of the contracts.

But there was disagreement as to the time schedule for the execution and completion of the projects.

Government officials said the projects would be completed in 2014, but the companies said the delivery time cannot be less than six years.

The Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project in Zungeru, Niger State will generate 700 negawatts, mw, of power while the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in the Mambilla Plateau of Taraba State will generate 3,050mw.
