10 June 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA – NIGERIANS should be expecting significant improvement in power supply by the third quarter of this year, if what Power Minister, Prof. Bart Nnaji says is anything to go by.

This would be achieved as the nation’s long-awaited National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) begin to come on stream between the third and fourth quarters of this year, Nnaji said.

He said in Abuja that begining from next month, 1,000MW from the NIPPs would be added to the national grid to bring total available capacity to 5,400MW.

According to him, with the completion of the NIPPs, expansion and upgrade of the transmission and distribution infrastructure, Nigeria should be able to generate 9,000MW by next year.
