11 August 2012, Sweetcrude, Abuja – Niger Delta Power holding Company Limited (NDPHC) the company established by the Federal, State and local governments to fund and implement the National Integrated Projects (NIPP), has appealed to Nigerians , security agencies and community leaders to assist in guarding the national power infrastructure it is building across the country.
This appeal was made by the NDPHC management following vandalism of a portion of its 330kV transmission line at Yangoji village along Lokoja-Gwagwalada road.
Mostly affected were towers 493, 494 and 495 spanning an area of about 800 meters. Thieves carted away high tension cables and accessories needed to complete this important transmission line intended to carry electricity from the new NIPP power station at Geregu to consumers in Kogi State, Abuja and the rest of the national electricity grid.
Managing Director NDPHC Mr. James Olotu said Nigerians should guard NIPP project sites and regard them as their own noting that the three tiers of government are the owners of the projects and they therefore belong to all Nigerians.
Olotu said Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration is committed to delivering power to Nigerians adding that vandalism will only act as a major set- back in this drive.
He urged community leaders assist the law enforcement agencies by providing any useful information that may help in arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
The Managing Director stated that NDPHC is committed to delivering more power infrastructure before the end of this year thereby boosting electricity supply to Nigerians.
