21 September 2017, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, says it has commenced the process that will lead to exploration of oil and gas in the Sokoto basin.
NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, disclosed this when the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, visited him at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Wednesday.
“We have been on the issue of exploration in the frontier basins and so far some measures of steps have been taken.
“We have already purchased aeromagnetic data and it’s being interpreted to determine the sedimentary thickness and the basin configuration,” Baru was quoted as saying in statement by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam.
According to him, NNPC had awarded a contract for the geological mapping of the basin, adding that samples had been collected, mapped, analysed and geological modelling executed so as to ensure data integration.
He said discussions were ongoing with Integrated Data Services Limited, IDSL, a subsidiary of the NNPC, to award the contract for surface geochemistry, ground gravity and magnetics.
