Mkpoikana Udoma 19 May 2017, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union of Nigeria, NUPENG, has warned Engine Lubricant Dealers, that it will not tolerate any form of sharp practices.
The oil workers union also said any dealer caught with adulterated products will be fined with the sum of N200,000 by the union before being handed to the security agencies for prosecution.
National President of NUPENG, Mr. Igwe Achese, who gave the warning in Port Harcourt while speaking at a two day NUPENG Oil Conference organised by the Engine Lubricants Dealers, ELD, a branch of NUPENG, described money made from adulterated lubricants as blood and cursed money.
Achese who was represented by the National Industrial Relations Officer of NUPENG, Mr. Bassey Harry, said NUPENG is a respected labour union in the country, hence members should not soil the name of the union with sharp practices.
“When consumers unknowingly buys substandard lubricants for their cars and generators, then the engine get knock because of the adulterated oil, the dealers will certainly be punished by God for selling adulterated oil to unsuspecting members of the public.
“Any day the law catches up with them, NUPENG will deny you. We will reinforce and ensure that all adulterated products are wiped out from the market.
“As we are arresting the man and we will seize the oil also. Anybody arrested with adulterated oil would be made to pay N200,000 fine to NUPENG purse before being handed over to the security agencies for prosecution.”
Harry further warned members of the ELD not to follow the footsteps of members of Surface Tank Kerosene Peddlers, SUTAKEP, which he sad has been out of business since 2016 due to its inability to wipe out adulterated kerosene from the public domain.
Speaking on the theme of the conference; ‘The Importance of Lubricant Sector in a Recession Economy’, the NUPENG boss also said every lubricants dealer must be a registered member of NUPENG.
“The essence of you being a member of NUPENG is not to use the union as a cover up for your greed. Every member must rise up to the challenge to wipe out adulterated engine lubricants in the market.
“Anybody that is not registered with NUPENG should not be allowed to do business because every member must be checked. And if he is not a member but he is dealing in oil, we will arrest him.”
