12 January 2012, Sweetcrude, UGHELLI – THE Ogulagha Clan Youth Association in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State has urged the management of the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and the Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company, SNEPCO, operator of the Bonga Facility to expedite action in the payment of compensation to the Federated Ogulagha communities of the oil spillage.
Reacting to a media report that 40,000 BBLS Crude Oil was said to have spilled over the marine environment into the shoreline, creeks farmlands and fishing spots in the Ogulagha communities by the Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company SNEPCO, operator of the Bonga Facility in a statement, the group charged the companies and other relevant agencies to ensure relieve materials were sent to the affected Ogulagha communities
The group in the statement signed by its National President, Mr John Bebapere, National Secretary, Mr Oluku Humphrey, the Public Relation Officer Mr Ebikeme Abanre, said; “the group has been keeping surveillance on their shores, creeks fishing spots and farmlands to ensure that the efforts made by the facility operators and all emergency response agencies towards containing the massive spill within the facility premises.”
Meanwhile, the Kokori Sub-clan Oil Producing Communities Association in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, has assured the Shell Petroleum and Development Company, SPDC of the safety of oil pipelines and installations in the Kokori oil field and its environs.
Speaking during the Kokori oil field summit at Samagidi-Kokori, chairman of the Association, Chief Emmanuel Avworo said the Kokori oil producing communities have been be peaceful and collaborated with oil companies operation in the area, adding that they have helped oil exploration activities in the area through the Integrated Pipelines Security Scheme in partnership with SPDC.
A scheme which according to him, has reduced incident of oil facilities vandalisation to near zero level, adding that the summit, which had in attendance representatives of SPDC, Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) and Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas, was to review the performance of the Association, the challenges and analyze the success with a view of improving on its activities and also review their position in a dynamic society.
