Port Harcourt — The National Association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailers of Nigeria has commissioned NASTOGRN Volunteer Operations, to sensitized youths against illegal oil refining, distribution and retailing of gas and petroleum products across Rivers State and other flashpoints in country.

Speaking at the commissioning of the volunteers, NASTOGRN National President, Engr. Onyeche Obinna, said hundreds of youths were trained as volunteers, in collaboration with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Obinna announced continuation of the exercise across the 23 Local Government Areas in the state, in order to stem down the rate of illegal oil bunkering operations within oil producing communities in the state.

The NASTOGRN boss lamented that illegal oil bunkering activities have seriously affected the economy of the nation, as well as affected investors in the oil and gas sector.

He stressed the need for the volunteers to remain focused and committed to their rules of engagement and avoid acts that will tarnish the image of the association.

Also speaking, the Training Officer, Peter Belford, urged the youths to implement all they have been trained for and remain dedicated despite the temptations that would come in the course of their duty.
