23 January 2013, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Apapa Business Unit of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has blamed the electricity outage in some areas under the unit on the recent explosion on the 33KVA Switch Gear at Amuwo- Odofin area of Lagos.

The Public Relations Officer of the unit, Mrs. Bola Kujore, said in a statement that the 33KVA switch gear at Amuwo-Odofin on the 132/33 KVA line caused serious damage on the transmission equipment.

She apologised to customers who have experienced power outage as a result of serious damage to transmission equipment. “The management regrets any inconvenience this development may cause the affected customers,” she said.

Kujore listed Ajeromi, Ajegunle, Amukoko neighbourhoods as areas that had experienced outage due to the explosion, which occurred on January 16, 2013.
