30 March 2012, Sweetcrude, YENAGOA – The Police arrested one person after foiling an attempt by some people claiming to be ex-militants to blow an oil pipeline in Bayelsa State.
The incident took place at Agbura in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the alleged bombers, who claimed they had been neglected by the Federal Government in the administration of the amnesty programme, were stopped by the Police just when they were about to carry out their plan.

The natives of Agbura were said to have noticed some strange people, who entered the community through the waterside, and therefore, promptly reported this at the Azikoro Police station.

The Police had secretly deployed some men to conduct surveillance on the suspects, and the suspects, unaware of this, went into action with their equipment before the policemen swooped on them.

One person was arrested while others escaped. Equipment belonging to the suspects were also recovered, it was gathered

The suspect has, meanwhile, been transferred to the police headquarters in Yenagoa, where he is undergoing interrogations.

Police sources said the command was on the trail of other members who escaped and that the suspect under arrest claimed that he and his colleagues were members of the third phase ex-militants who had been denied accommodation in the amnesty programme.
