Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt Area I Command, Compt. Cheidi Wada, said the Command also generated over N988million through interventions, as the revenue generated so far reflects a 10.6 per cent increase from last year within the same period.
Wada explained that the Command was optimistic to surpass its revenue target sequel to the spirited efforts of officers and men anchored on holistic coordinated teamwork.
“The Nigeria Customs Service Area 1 Command Port Harcourt generated a total sum of N57,405,734,420.68 into the federation account from the months of January to July 2023 and the amount collected in the corresponding period of 2022 which stood at N51,868,334,310.51 and it reflects a 10.6 per cent increase.
“The Command also generated the sum of N988,127,504 through interventions for the period under review.”
On anti-smuggling activities, Comptroller Wada asserted that the Command due to emphasis on 100percent physical examination, some containers were suspected to have falsely declared and hence were put under detention pending further investigation.
He charged all licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, and others to ensure compliance with the operational procedures and fiscal policies of the federal government of Nigeria as enshrined in the CEMA Act.
“The command has continued to uphold the tenets of information sharing and networking at high esteem, which informed the several courtesy visits to the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Correctional Service and DSS.
“The Command has maintained a cordial working relationship with all critical stakeholders and operators in the area command aimed to achieve seamless cargo documentation and clearance at the port.”
He further commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for creating the enabling working environment, which he said has enhanced productivity and effective and efficient service delivery.
