20 May 2018, Sweetcrude, Lagos — Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has urged operators in the power sector to brace up for the challenges that come with the rainy season.
The minister made the call in his remarks at the just concluded 27th Monthly Power Sector Operators Meeting Hosted By Yola Distribution Company.
According to him, the season which will see “more rains come down in the next few months”, will require “us (operators) to increase our commitment to further improving service,” he said.
The rains, he explained, will bring more water supply to the hydro-electric facilities, resulting in more challenges to Transmission and Distribution by way of storms, heavy winds, falling trees, damage to towers, lines and installations.
“We must rise up to these challenges better than we have done in the past,” he said.
Going further to list how expected challenges should be combated, Fashola said operators should promptly issue notices when there are known damages that interfere with power supply, and promptly send maintenance men out to repair and replace damaged equipment or clear fallen trees.
Again, he advised that prompt information should be sent to the public on multiple platforms of conventional and social media to report faults that operators may not be aware of, likewise,
“painstakingly hold ourselves out as available, ready, and willing to resolve customer problems and provide better service”.
