Presidency explains delay in TCN handover to Manitoba

08 February 2013, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Presidency has explained the delay in the handover of the management of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to Manitoba Hydro International, citing ‘management issues’.

Mr. Beks Dagogo Jack,  chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power, PTFP, disclosed while speaking at a meeting with power sector agencies, that the delay ‘is largely a management issues’, adding that discussions were currently underway to resolve outstanding matter.

He explained that the review exercise would bring the result into proper alignment with projections going forward, noting that those familiar with the first review exercise would recognize that there are elements that are not reflective of the realities on ground.

“In the original roadmap we had projected some capacities to come in at certain time lines because we did not do everything that we should have done. We slipped on those timelines and we can’t leave the roadmap in that same shape or version. We need to review it.”

Manitoba, a firm with Canadian origins, has been waiting since August 2012 to get the delegated authority from the federal government to assume management control to turn around the TCN.
