Port Harcourt — In a bid to achieve uninterrupted power supply, the Rivers State government, Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, and key stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry have begun discussions on a comprehensive power roadmap.

The meeting convoked by Rivers State Commissioner of Power, Solomon Abel Eke, brought together stakeholders and experts to brainstorm and align efforts toward realizing Governor Sim Fubara’s vision of 24/7 power supply in the state.

Speaking, the TCN Regional Manager in Port Harcourt, Engr. Emmanuel Apka, disclosed that the program of the company to increase its wheeling capacity to make more bulk powers available to distribution load centres nationwide aligns with the State’s vision.

Apka disclosed that TCN has completed several projects in the region that directly benefits the state such as the company recently commissioned two 100MVA transformers in Port Harcourt, and a 60MVA transformer at Rumuosi Transmission Substation.

On his part, the Rivers State Commissioner of Power, Solomon Abel Eke, explained that the essence of the meeting was to consult with stakeholders to develop a workable electricity roadmap for the state to actualize Governor Sim Fubara’s vision of a 24/7 power supply in the state.

Stakeholders, including First Independent Power Limited, TransAfam Power, and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has PHED, expressed commitment to the vision but lamented the devastating impact of power infrastructure vandalization on their efforts.

The meeting marked a significant step towards developing a workable electricity roadmap for Rivers State, with all parties agreeing to collaborate and address the challenges hindering reliable power supply.
