Lagos — Promoters of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Trade Modernization Project (TMP) have assured that the ongoing Single Window Project, championed by the Federal Government through the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), will not interfere with or undermine the progress of the Customs modernization efforts.
Dr. Jumai Ajijola, Managing Director of Trade Modernization Project Limited, (the Special Purpose Vehicle driving the project), clarified that the TMP is a separate concession initiative and is in no way linked to the Single Window project.
Ajijola further explained that the primary goal of the TMP is to transition the Nigeria Customs Service to a paperless system, facilitating quicker trade processes.
She emphasized that the project aims to implement cutting-edge technologies that align the NCS with international best practices in Customs operations.
She stated: “The Trade Modernization Project is a concessionaire partnership with the Federal Government to modernize the Nigeria Customs Service. Its key objective is to create a paperless Customs system, ensuring that NCS adopts the most advanced technologies and skills to keep up with global trends in Customs administration.
“As an essential player in the trade supply chain, the modernization project will enhance NCS’s ability to integrate with the National Single Window for smooth cooperation with other government bodies.
“This represents global best practices in trade facilitation, where agencies leverage technology to streamline their operations and collaborate seamlessly with other stakeholders in the trade supply chain.
