Abacha’s contentions are that he was an original co-owner of Malabu when it was controversially awarded the lucrative oil block in 1998 during his father’s military regime, but that he was illegally excluded when the company transferred the oil well to the two multinational oil companies.

“After turning up with nothing in Kano, now the EFCC want to conduct another dramatic campaign in Okenne for the cameras, and we are certain that like the previous raids which turned up nothing, no incriminating document or item would be found in the premises in Okenne or anywhere else for that matter because no such document exist.”

“It is instructive that this same old fable apparently intended to rubbish Jonathan’s name locally and internationally, is being recycled with more lies added to garnish the narrative, at a time the ex-President is making efforts to resolve the issues in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”

He specifically condemned the “singling out” of the Malabu oil deal for probe, saying it was disheartening that while the other oil blocks awarded at the same time and through the same process were left untouched, the Malabu incident had been a subject of sustained probe because it is owned by a Niger Delta individual.
