The groups alleged that there was plan by the Commission to release funds meant for the development of the region to individuals and groups under spurious guise.
“To enhance a speedy development and restore peace in the Niger Delta region, Federal Government has revamped the Niger Delta Development Commission to drive the creation of development and infrastructure projects in the region,” Akande added.
“We have resolved that resource control, fiscal federalism and devolution of powers are the only panacea. Anything short of that will not be acceptable to NDRC and the 21st century agitators of the Niger Delta.”
The NDDC management had recently said it had revoked more than 600 contracts and projects worth N200 billion as part of efforts to restructure its balance sheet.
“The region is deplorable and the question is that for all these years that resources had been allocated there, what has been happening and this curiosity leads us to research what is responsible for the situation.”
The oil major said $1.18bn was paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Service as taxes, $160.71m and $239,189 to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) as royalties and fees, respectively, and $125.14m to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as fees.
