    Tanzania votes Sh775m for Coast Region Power Projects

    Aba power plant25 June 2013, Dodoma – A total of 775m/- has been allocated during this financial year, to undertake power projects between Ruvu Stesheni and Kitomondo wards in Coast Region, the National Assembly was told on Monday.

    Responding to a question by Kibaha Rural MP, Mr Hamoud Jumaa, Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals, Mr Steven Masele, said the projects will be undertaken by the Rural Electrification Agency, REA.

    In his question, Mr Jumaa had tasked the government on when the projects will be accomplished and whether funds have been allocated for that purpose.

    Deputy Minister Masele said the projects will cover Ruvu Stesheni, Pangani, Tondoroni, Makazi Mapya, Ngeta, Kwala Dutuni as well as Rukenge and Magindu. The projects will be implemented through the second phase of rural electrification programme.

    “Tenders for implementation of the projects were announced in December last year and opened in March this year. The projects involve construction of 33 kilovolts power lines for 15.2 kilometres and 0.4 kilovolts in a distance of 9.5 kilometres,” he told the National Assembly.

    The projects will also involve installation of two transformers with the capacity of 100kVA and 50kVA where a total of 145 customers will be connected to power, according to Mr Masele.

    The Deputy Minister was optimistic that the tendering process will be completed in the near future and that work is expected to start at the end of this month.
