Port Harcourt — The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Benin Region, has announced a scheduled outage on the Benin-Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line to facilitate ongoing restringing works at the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation.

According to a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, the project commenced las Friday, and will run through Tuesday, March 31, 2026, between 8:00am and 6:00pm daily.

TCN said the outage is required to enable its contractor to continue restringing works on the high-voltage transmission line connected to the Ihovbor Power Plant.

The company explained that temporary power interruptions are unavoidable because the transmission line crosses major highways along the Benin-Ajaokuta axis. Road safety agencies have been notified and will be on standby throughout the construction period to ensure public safety.

During the construction window, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, will be unable to supply electricity for up to 10 hours daily to customers in UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba and Ihovbor environs.

TCN clarified that restringing activities will be suspended at 6:00pm each day, after which the affected feeders will be restored. This means electricity supply will be available from 6:00pm to 8:00am daily until the completion of the project.

The company assured customers that full bulk power supply will be restored to BEDC upon completion of the works at the end of March.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience and reaffirmed that the project is critical to strengthening transmission infrastructure and improving long-term grid reliability in the region.
