08 June 2013, Enugu – The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Enugu region, has warned the public against sand excavation around its New Haven-Otukpo 132KV transmission line at Opi, near Nsukka, Enugu State.
It urged iindividuals or groups involved in the escarvation to avoid he act or be set to face the the consequences.
TCN General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Region, Mr. Ikechukwu Onumonu, who isssued the warning, said the escarvation activities affects TCN tower numbers T142, T143 and T144.
He disclosed this while on inspection of of the transmission towers. saying: “The affected high tension tower foundations are being threatened seriously by these unwarranted and dangerous activities.
“A collapse of a single high tension tower usually give way to collapse of other towers especially those closer to it, leading to loss of lives and very long time of power outages in the area affected.”
This is besides the huge cost of re-erecting the collapsed tower, he added, as he urged government agencies and the general public watch out for the excavators.
