25 September 2012, Sweetcrude, YENAGOA – THERE is tension brewing at Egbemo-Angalabiri Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State where a Coalition of Swamp/Coastal Communities staged a peaceful protest to persuade President Goodluck Jonathan to sack the board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, over alleged incompetence.
The protesters also handed President Jonathan a seven-day ultimatum to sack the board of the commission.
The placard wielding protesters from the 18 coastal communities, who stormed Egbemo-Angalabiri in speed boats, claimed that they produce over 668,000 barrels of crude daily from the various flow stations but have no project to show for it.
Some of the placards read, “NDDC must go,” “Enough is enough.”
Leading the protest, Mr. Lambert Odudu, Chairman of the Coalition, said: “The communities are protesting the deliberate marginalisation of our people. We produce 668,000 barrels daily which amount to one-third of the country production yet there are no NDDC projects on ground in our communities.”
