Port Harcourt — French oil giant, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, has affirmed its commitment to sustainable skills development and other schemes targeted at youth development, including the area of sports.
Deputy Managing Director, JV Asset, Mr. Guillaume Dulout, gave the affirmation at the closing ceremony of the 2021 OML58 Host Communities Football Tournament in Obite, Ogba/Egbeama/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State.
Dulout said the OML58 football competition was a unique project that has become the hallmark and testimony of an enduring relationship, which the company would preserve with her host communities, notwithstanding the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Deputy JV Asset boss also encouraged every member of her host communities to be part of combating the pandemic by embracing the ongoing vaccination campaigns.
He also condoled with the people of Egi Kingdom over the demise of Eze Egi l (Eze Ogba-Ukwu of Ogbaland) HRM King Anele Uzondu Nwokoma, who passed away few months ago.
“I would like to salute the courage of all the teams that have participated in this competition for the fair play and soccer artistry displayed throughout the competition.
“I am indeed proud to be part of this competition and as mentioned during the opening ceremony, you should be assured of the commitment of the NNPC/TEPNG Joint Venture, to continue to identify with our youths in their efforts to engage in purposeful endeavours, including sporting activities such as this which also fosters togetherness and builds enduring social bridges across the different communities that have participated in this competition.
“For us in TotalEnergies, we want to assure you of our continued commitment to sustainable skills development and other schemes targeted at youth development including the area of sports.”
Dulout represented at the event by the General Manager, JV Onshore, Field Operations, Mr Christopher Emuh, commended the competition organizing committees, media partners, Rivers State Football Association and other stakeholders for making the competition a success.
“Finally, I wish to congratulate the players in all the teams and their respective supporters for their very spirited participation and support in this tournament.
“We also appreciate how you have all conducted yourselves peacefully throughout the period of this competition and we encourage you to maintain the same spirit as we go through the festive season and in the new year.”
The 18 edition of the OML58 football competition began with 18 teams, representing 18 host communities on the 9th of November 2021.
At the end of the 2021 tournament, Elele-Okinali won the championship trophy by clinching the first position, while Obite and Elele-Alimini clinched the second and third positions respectively.
