*Commend removal of TCN boss

Lagos – The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to caution the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha over circular tailored to restore the sacked Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Usman Gur Mohammed.
In a letter written to President Buhari and signed by General Secretary of the SSAEAC, Umar Abubakar Dubagari , the Union said, given what they have seen in TCN, they commend the President’s move in removing Mohammed as the TCN Managing Director.
They said there were sundry and repeated actions of Mohammed that ought to have necessitated his sack long ago, including incompetence, indiscipline, impunity, non-compliance to rules, confrontation of his supervisors, open quarrel with other operators and financial malfeasance.
The Union described his removal as liberation for the suppressed staff of TCN who were performing sub-optimally on account of his tyranny and misdemeanors, which is against their tenet as vanguard of seeking progress and order in the sector.
The Union said, they were taken aback and also found it shocking to see a circular that seemed tailored to restore the sacked Managing Director to his former office that has been occupied by another appointee, to the relief of the workers of TCN and sector operators.
They referred to a recent petition they sent to the President, on the activities of the former TCN boss using his position to form partnership with an irresponsible union in the sector to manipulate his Ministers and staff in order to have his way in everything.
Allegations, counter-allegations over TCN boss’ sack
They stated that, he unilaterally terminated the appointment of a career General Manager and their Union President, without recourse to his Minister nor procedure, anchoring it on false reason of expiration of tenure. They added that he dared his supervisors and mobilized the same union members of which he used as mercenaries to back him up.
The Union called on the President to expedite action in view of the potential for repeat of the above breaches and more, as they are worried of having an obnoxious precedent set by the failure of sanctioning the above actions.
‘’Your Excellency is hereby notified of pending Labour action by our union and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria against the Management of TCN headed by UG Mohammed in the unlikely event that the circular restores him to TCN and if the wrongful termination of our President is not reversed immediately’’ they averred.
