14 June 2014 – The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US fell by six this week to total 1854, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.
Oil-directed rigs rigs rose by six to total 1542, while gas rigs slumped by 10 for a total of 310.
The Permian saw the most rig movements this week, gaining eight in total to end up at 556. Many of those came from New Mexico, which added five for 91.
Texas lost eight rigs on the whole for 888. The Eagle Ford shed a rig for 213, the Barnett shale lost three for 25 and the Granite Wash gained three for 70.
Oklahoma gained a pair of rigs for 200, as did Kansas for 33.
The Mississippian play gained two for 79.
The Williston basin lost a quartet of rigs, finishing the week at 174. North Dakota was flat on 169.
The Marcellus gained three rigs for 83. Pennsylvania added two for 59 and West Virginia added one for 26.
The Utica shale was down one for 40.
California lost a rig for 47. Alaska was flat on 10.
The US Gulf of Mexico gained one rig for 57.
Canada was up 30 rigs for 244.
