“The transmission capacity would reach 15,000MW with 1,540MW marked for export in 2025. By 2030, the electricity grid will have a 23,000MW wheeling capacity and 28,000MW by 2035 from which 2,000MW will be available for export,” he said.

“The President had given a mandate to the ministry and by extension to TCN to improve its capacity to deliver service between the Gencos and the Discos. That mandate had been followed by policy approvals, power recovery programme, the grid expansion programme.”
He said, “This is expected to significantly increase the wheeling capacity of the national grid (between 2,000MW to 3,000MW). TCN is already in discussion with World Bank to use the balance under Nigeria Electricity and Gas Improvement Project (NEGIP) to procure the conductors.”
He said, “In line with our strategy, we are completing aross the country several projects which would cumulatively add over 1,000MW transformer capacity to the grid before January 31, 2018.”
“The three highest Nigerian generation records have occurred this month on December 8,14 and 15 2017 (5,156MW, 5,077MW and 5,103MW),” said the report.
He explained that the Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme (TREP) which sought to decentralise significant aspects of project implementation to regions was designed to further increase the national peak transmission capacity.
