    26 plants generate 3,310.95GWh of electricity in December 2023

    Port Harcourt — 26 grid-connected electricity generation plants generated a total of 3,310.95GWh of electricity in the month of December 2023, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has said.

    According to NERC, these 26 grid-connected power plants generated a total of 4,450.20MWh per hour in the month under review, even when they have an installed capacity of generating 12,199MW.

    Data released by NERC on the operational performance of power plants indicated that Egbin ST, Delta GS, Kanji, Afam VI, Odukpani, Shiroro, Jebba, Okpai, Azura IPP and Geregu plants generated 2,499.86GWh, which represents 80percent of the energy generated in December 2023.

    Afam IV -V, Sapele ST, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele GT NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP, Geregu NIPP, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Ibom Power, River NIPP, Omoku, Trans Amadi, Paras, Taopex Energy and Darin Kawa generated a total of 811.21GWh being 20percent of energy generated during the period.

    Kanji and Egbin ST plants generated the highest power of 351.02GWh and 325.80GWh, while Azura IPP trailed behind with 301.87GWh in December 2023, while Taopex Energy and Ihovbor NIPP generated the least power of 10.55GWh and 12.65GWh, from their installed capacity of 60MW and 450MW respectively.

    NERC further disclosed that 4,726.75GWh is the average available capacity from these 26 power plants.
