16 July 2015, Lagos – Nigeria Ship-owners are hoping to take charge of Cabotage business as the deadline by the management of the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board, NCDMB, for the N5.4 billion monthly vessels servicing projects by foreign owners for major companies expires in a few months.
Disclosing this at a press briefing in Lagos, President of Nigerian Ship-owners Association, NISA, Capt. Niyi Labinjo, said with the expiration of the deadline by the end of the year, Nigerian ship-owners would be considered for all classes of offshore support vessels services.
The NISA president also disclosed that it has entered into another agreement, this time with American and Turkish partners over provision of vessels not limited to product tankers alone. Recall that it had earlier entered into an agreement with a Greek company to provide 40 vessels for Nigerian ship-owners.
According to Labinjo, “We have under consideration all classes of offshore support vessels including anchor handling tugs, platform support vessels, utility vessels, crew boats, patrol boats etc.
