Port Harcourt — Africa must harness artificial intelligence and digital innovation to close its widening energy access gap and fuel inclusive development, says Deputy Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, Mr. Olakunle Osobu.
Speaking at the Africa Energy Technology Conference 2025 in Accra, Ghana recently, Osobu delivered a stirring keynote titled “The AI-Powered Energy Revolution: Digital Transformation for Africa’s Future,” urging both public and private sectors to act boldly in transforming the continent’s energy systems.
He stressed that technology, particularly artificial intelligence, must become central to Africa’s energy transition, emphasizing that ambition alone was not enough.
“Africa is home to over 600 million people who still lack access to reliable electricity. That is not just an energy crisis, it’s a development emergency. With our young population and abundant natural resources, the continent can lead the global energy future if we build smarter, inclusive systems now.
“Shaping Africa’s energy future demands more than ambition; it requires coordinated leadership, clear policy direction, and the will to ensure that progress reaches every part of society,” he said.
Osobu emphasized that energy must be seen not just as a resource to be consumed, but as a platform for national advancement.
He reaffirmed NLNG’s commitment to investing in people, infrastructure, and partnerships that drive long-term value.
“At NLNG, we believe that building resilient energy systems isn’t just about profits, it’s about legacy. This is the time for collaboration. Governments and businesses must align their vision to create energy access that is both equitable and future-ready.”
The conference brought together top energy executives, policymakers, and tech innovators from across the continent and beyond, focused on how digital technologies can accelerate Africa’s path to a sustainable and inclusive energy future.
