13 December 2011, Sweetcrude, Yenagoa – The Bayelsa State chairman of the Maritime Workers Union, Chief Lloyd Sese has described as disturbing the rising wave of pirates attacks on the state waterways.

Chief Sese in interview in Yenagoa while lamenting the upsurge in the pirates attacks in the state waterways and attendant loss of lives said the incidence of pirate attacks have been occurring without resistance from passengers.

He noted with sadness that in spite of the various Save-Our-Soul messages sent to the state government, the Inland Waterways and the State Police Command the situation is yet to improve in the waterways.

Commuters and boat drivers plying the waterways he lamented have been at the mercy of the rampaging pirates in recent times terrorizing the mangrove creek.

The state maritime union boss noted that the security concern along the waterways last year led to the mobilization of youths against sea pirates and it yielded the arrest of four pirates after a robbery incident at Akassa area of the Brass Local Government.

Only last week three policemen were attacked and killed along the Nembe creek by suspected pirates leaving several others injured.
