26 July 2012, Sweetcrude, UGHELLI—IDOKO royal family of Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, has asked Shell Petroleum Development Company, to urgently address oil pollution ravaging the community.
The community said the oil spill, which polluted the area, was from the company’s facilities.
The family, in a statement by its Chairman, Prince Fred Ogelohwhor and Secretary, Mr. Isaac Offi, condemned what it described as the nonchalant attitude of Shell to their plight and welfare.
The statement said: “We the family of Idoko are peace-loving. We want to dialogue and negotiate with Shell to avoid a break down of law and order.
“We are demanding employments, contracts, scholarships and for anybody in the family above 18 years to be paid N100, 000 monthly among others from Shell to improve the lives of the people as host community.
“Since the early 60s when Shell acquired our land, we have not benefited from the oil company as all we have is the pollution of our farm land.”
