07 February 2013, Sweetcrude, Asaba – Delta Government says it had completed the installation of the N200 million 7.5 MVA electricity injection transformer sub-station at Olomoro in Isoko North Local Government Area.
Inspecting the project, Mr Charles Emetulu, the Commissioner for Power and Energy, said the facility would be handed over to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) before the end of February.
Emetulu said the station would boost electricity supply in Olomoro and other communities in the area, including Igbide and Ewen.
The commissioner also inspected the completed two units of 2.5 MVA transformer at Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area and formally handed the facility over to PHCN.
He said the transformers at Orerokpe were purchased and installed at a total cost of N77 million.
He said it was not the responsibility of the state government to provide transformers for PHCN, but that it embarked on the project to enhance development of the communities.
Emetulu urged the community to ensure that the facilities were protected and warned that the people would be liable for any destruction to them.
“As a community, you must at all times cooperate with officials of the PHCN in the maintenance and security of the transformers.
“It is in your own interest to do so,’’ he said.
He said the community had been without electricity for many months, adding that the transformers were meant to restore power to the community.
