Port Harcourt — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, says his administration is intensifying efforts to achieve stable electricity supply through a combination of grid expansion and off-grid solutions across rural communities.

He made the announcement recently during his third anniversary speech, stressing that reliable power is essential to industrial growth and social development.

“In the power sector, we have taken steps to ensure we provide stable electricity to our people in the very near future. We have also worked on off-grid power supply to our unserved rural communities,” Eno said.

The governor said energy access remains central to his administration’s development blueprint, particularly in driving agriculture, healthcare, and small business growth.

He noted that solar-powered infrastructure, including boreholes and model schools, has been deployed across wards to improve basic services.

Eno said rural electrification efforts are tied to broader community development initiatives across all 31 local government areas.

He explained that his administration has constructed model primary schools equipped with solar power, ICT labs, and staff quarters to improve learning conditions.

He also said 2,854 medical personnel have been recruited, while over 200,000 residents are now enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme.

The governor added that construction is ongoing on the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, which will serve as a tertiary health hub for the region.

He said the state has also paid over N83 billion in inherited gratuity arrears as part of fiscal reforms aimed at stabilizing governance systems.

Eno linked energy stability to wider infrastructure development, including roads, housing clusters, tourism assets, and aviation expansion projects.

He said Ibom Air is expanding its fleet with international operations underway, supported by airport infrastructure upgrades including maintenance facilities and cargo systems.

The governor maintained that power stability, once achieved, will accelerate industrialization and unlock full value across the state’s economic sectors under the ARISE 2.0 agenda.
