17 July 2012, Sweetcrude, ASABA – THE Delta State government has signed a memorandum of understanding, MOU, with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, ECN, for partnership in the provision of renewable energy.
The state governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, at the occasion in Asaba, urges the involvement of the rural people on the part of the commission in the implementation of renewable energy programme, for asuccessful acquisition of the expertise by the populace.
At the event, which also incorporated the three-day National Training workshop on Renewable Energy and Climate change for Rural Women, Farmers and Amnesty Youths, Uduaghan said renewable energy was a veritable source of job creation.
The governor was of the view that the rural people could be trained to acquire the expertise in maintaining Solar Systems in their locality, stressing that the participants should take the programme seriously.
According to him, the training on Renewable Energy does not need only educated participant, as, he said, “It doesn’t need a degree holder to be able to learn how to acquire the expertise on renewable energy. Our rural populace can be trained.”
He maintained that Delta state was in the forefront of the crusade on renewable energy and was developing strategies on how to make it effective.
“Delta state is one of the states in the fore front in the Renewable Energy Programme. We are doing a lot of studies and in the next one year we can map out strategies on how to use it,” he said.
