    Diesel price skyrockets by 66% to ₦1,403/litre in one year

    Port Harcourt — The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has revealed a significant 66.29% surge in the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, also known as diesel, in May 2024, in comparison with the same period in 2023.

    According to NBS, the price of diesel has risen by 66.29% over the past year, from N844.28 per litre in May 2023 to N1,403.96 per litre in May 2024.

    On a month-on-month basis, the price decreased by 0.78%, from N1,415.06 in April 2024 to N1,403.96 in May 2024.

    According to the NBS report, Adamawa, Sokoto, and Bauchi states recorded the highest prices, at N1,709, N1,675, and N1,657.92 per litre, respectively.

    In contrast, Niger, Kano, and Oyo states had the lowest prices, at N1,140.20, N1,153.33, and N1,236.92 per litre, respectively.

    The North-East Zone had the highest average price of N1,605.91, while the South-West Zone had the lowest average price of N1,303.60.
