    Electric pole crushes tricycle rider in Warri

    13 February 2012, Sweetcrude, WARRI— TRAGEDY struck, Sunday, in Ajamimogha area of Warri, Delta State, when a truck conveying empty bottles dragged a set of high tension Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) cables across the highway, breaking an electric pole in the process.
    The pole fell on a tricycle rider, killing him on the spot. The falling pole also crushed the legs of a lady, who is now receiving treatment at the Central Hospital, Warri.
    The deceased was identified as Meyigbemi Atoromeyintse, a father of one, while the woman, a petty beautician, was identified as Bose Chimezie.
    The incident, which took place around 8: 30 am, drew the ire of youths of the area, when the truck driver who usually assists raise low PHCN cables to allow free passage, dragged the cables that eventually got the poorly moulded concrete electric pole on the opposite side of the road broken, and falling on the deceased.
    The driver of the truck ran to safety immediately the incident occured to avoid being lynched.
    A police patrol team from the “A” Division, led by Mr A. Jattu, battled with hundreds of youths who were bent on setting the truck ablaze, before he succeeded in taking it to the police station.
    Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue while the driver is currently in detention.
