Newswire — Harbour Energy has been formally appointed operator of the Zama oil development offshore Mexico, following unanimous agreement by project partners Pemex, Grupo Carso and Talos Energy, and subsequent approval by Mexico’s Ministry of Energy (SENER).

Zama — one of the largest shallow-water discoveries globally in the past decade — is estimated to hold about 750 million barrels of oil equivalent (gross recoverable).

Front-end engineering and design (FEED) is expected to be completed in 2026 ahead of a final investment decision. Harbour holds a 32.22% operated interest, alongside Pemex (50.4%) and Talos Energy Mexico (17.35%).

Once onstream, Zama is expected to materially strengthen Mexico’s domestic supply and bolster Harbour’s production profile. The company also operates the ~150-mmboe Kan field and recently moved to acquire LLOG Exploration Company, expanding its operated offshore portfolio in the United States.
