Port Harcourt — Amid growing concerns over insecurity and deteriorating public infrastructure, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has assured residents of Ahoada West Local Government Area that his administration remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property.
Speaking through the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, at a town hall meeting held at the Ahoada West Council Headquarters in Akinima, the Sole Administrator declared that ensuring peace and safety across all communities remains a top priority for his government.
“Security is everyone’s business. We call on all community members to partner with us by providing timely and credible information. This is the only way to sustain peace and address challenges effectively.”
The town hall meeting, organized to assess welfare and security challenges in Ahoada West, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women representatives, and civil society actors.
Urging collaboration from all quarters, Ibas said the state government would respond promptly to concerns identified by residents.
“This administration is committed to action. We want to hear from you directly, and we assure you that pressing issues will be given urgent attention,” he added.
The Administrator of Ahoada West LGA, Mr. Promise Jacob, pledged to implement the directives of the Sole Administrator aimed at restoring peace and accelerating development.
“We are grateful for the support from the state government and security agencies. I am personally committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure stability in our communities,” Jacob said.
Among the key issues raised at the meeting was the deteriorating state of the General Hospital, Jankarama. King Dr. Moore MacLean urged the state government to act swiftly.
“The hospital is in dire condition. It can no longer serve the people effectively. We need immediate intervention to upgrade our health facilities,” he stated.
Calls for youth empowerment dominated the contributions from the younger demographic, as youth leader of Ahoada West, Eze Robinson, and activist Comrade Eyee Ikporo jointly appealed for expanded economic programmes.
“Many of our youths are idle. Empowerment initiatives will go a long way to reduce crime and promote peace,” Robinson said.
Women, led by Mrs. Chika Charles, also demanded more inclusive policies and economic opportunities for women in the area.
“Women are ready to contribute meaningfully to the economy. We only need access and support,” Charles said.
Highlights of the town hall included inspection visits to the General Hospital, Jankarama, the JK1 facility, and the Divisional Police Headquarters in Akinima.
The Rivers State Government reaffirmed its commitment to peace, security, and inclusive development, calling for sustained cooperation from all residents.
