Oscarline Onwuemenyi 04 August 2015, Sweetcrude, Abuja – SweetcrudeReports’ earlier report of the imminent announcement of Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu as the new Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been confirmed by the presidency.
A statement from the media office of the President Muhammadu Buhari also announced the sack of Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha as the GMD of the NNPC.
Dr. Kachikwu was until this appointment, the Executive Vice Chairman of Exxon Mobil Africa.
Dr. Kachikwu, from Delta State, is a First Class Graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the Nigerian Law School, where he was best graduand and multiple awards winner in both Institutions. He also has a Masters and Doctorate Degree in Law from Harvard Law School USA, with distinctions.
A former investment attorney in the United States, Kachikwu is also the publisher of several magazine titles and has also taught Law at Harvard, Nigerian Law School and several globally acclaimed institutions.
He has three published Law books in Investment Law and Contracts and numerous articles in various Journals. In his capacity as the Vice Chairman and General Counsel of ExxonMobil, he oversees the compliance programs of the company and advices on issues related to adherence with compliance regulations and anti-corruption laws in Africa.
Dr. Kachikwu, who has since taken over as GMD on Tuesday afternoon at a brief handover at the NNPC Headquarters in Abuja, expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Dr. Joseph T. Dawha for his hard work in holding the Corporation while pledging to work assiduously in achieving the president’s growth aspiration for the oil and gas industry.
Before he joined ExxonMobil, Kachikwu worked as General Counsel of Texaco Upstream and Downstream in Nigeria.
