7 December 2011, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – The Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB) says it has began an energy audit in the state, as part of efforts to enhance energy efficiency and back up Nigeria’s power sector reforms.

The board is an agency of the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources incharge of energy development, independent power projects and public lighting.

Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, general manager of the board, said in a statement that the exercise, which commenced recently will capture information on installed capacity data and actual amount of energy/power required (energy usage).

According to her, the exercise is to develop a comprehensive database for energy consumption in the state that will be vital for energy planning and the power sector reform.

Ogunbiyi said there are operational and environmental benefits that would arise from understanding energy patterns and the efficient use of the energy available.

Disclosing that over 40 engineers have been trained by the Board to ensure the success of the programme, she reiterated that the Lagos State government is set to promote an energy awareness culture within the state and also assist the Federal Government in its power sector reform agenda.

Ogunbiyi urged the public to co-operate with the field engineers involved in the exercise.
