Port Harcourt — The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, has met with the leadership of the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria, MEMAN, as part of efforts to strengthen productivity and value-chain efficiency in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
This as the Chairman and Secretary of MEMAN paid a courtesy visit to the minister, during which both sides undertook what Lokpobiri described as a “constructive sectoral review,” assessing current performance metrics, operational bottlenecks, and emerging growth opportunities.
“We engaged in a constructive sectoral review, carefully assessing current performance, key challenges, and emerging opportunities within the industry,” Lokpobiri tweeted on X.
According to the minister, the discussions centered on practical steps to consolidate ongoing reforms in the downstream space, particularly around supply chain stability, operational efficiency, and market sustainability.
“We addressed practical measures aimed at solidifying ongoing efforts in the downstream sector to enhance productivity, strengthen value chains, and promote sustainable prosperity,” the minister stated.
SweetCrudeReports noted that collaboration between government and major fuel marketers is critical in stabilizing distribution networks, ensuring product availability, and deepening private-sector investment in infrastructure such as depots, retail outlets, and logistics systems.
The engagement comes amid broader federal government efforts to entrench market-driven reforms in the petroleum sector, improve regulatory certainty, and attract long-term capital into refining, storage, and distribution assets.
