Lagos — THE National Association of Maritime Transport Operators, NAMTOP has called on the management of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, to extend the same review of rate it has granted operators in the Eastern ports.

In a letter dated March 29th, 2024, and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, President of NAMTOP, Mr. Adisa Moshood commended the leadership of the Council for its recent engagement of stakeholders in the Eastern Ports adding that fair and sustainable haulage rate that will benefit all stakeholders in the maritime industry.

Moshood in the letter titled ‘Re – review of haulage rate’ also said that stakeholders in the Western port are also looking forward to a similar engagement and possible review of haulage rates in the Lagos and its environs.

“I am writing on behalf of the National Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMTOP) to commend the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for its recent engagement of stakeholders of the Eastern port for the review of the haulage rate.

“This initiative is a step in the right direction towards ensuring a fair and sustainable haulage rate that will benefit all stakeholders in the maritime industry,” he said.

As a major stakeholder in the western ports, we are eagerly anticipating a similar engagement by the NSC. We commenced the process together in 2023 but unfortunately, we have not seen it to a logical conclusion. We implore the council to expedite action on this matter and ensure that all stakeholders are carried along in the process.

“Furthermore, we advise the council to ensure fairness in inviting participants to the engagement. It is important that all relevant stakeholders are given equal opportunity to contribute to the review of the haulage rate. This will ensure that the outcome of the engagement is widely accepted and implemented.

Once again, we commend the NSC for its efforts towards ensuring a fair and sustainable haulage rate in the Eastern port and we look forward to a similar engagement in the western ports.”
