16 November 2011, Sweetcrude, PORT HARCOURT— The Nigerian Navy has acquired six new gun boats to enhance its operations in the creeks and waterways of Niger Delta region.

Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin, who made this known in Port Harcourt, said the gun boats would aid the navy in its fight against illegal bunkering, piracy and other related crimes on the waterways.

Jibrin, on inspection tour of naval facilities in Rivers and Bayelsa States, said efforts were also on to secure more gun boats for the Command.

He cautioned his men against acts of indiscipline, noting that he would not hesitate to deal with anyone found wanting and enjoining them to be good ambassadors of the navy at all times.
