    NDA awards Alison-Madueke doctorate degree

    17 September 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja- Minister of Petroleum Re sources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, today adds another first to her profile with an honourary Doctorate Degree award in Management Sciences from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, making her the first female to be so honoured.

    The Minister will be honoured by the nation’s premier defence institution, the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna at the convocation ceremony for the 58th Regular Course Cadet and post graduate students.

    Before now Mrs. Alison-Madueke emerged the first woman to hold the office of Minister of Petroleum Resources as well as the first female head of an OPEC country delegation to the annual OPEC Meet in the 51 year history of the organisation.

    Appointed first female Honourable Minister of Transportation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in July 2007, charged with the responsibility of over-seeing the Ministry of Transportation.

    In 2006, in recognition of her track record of excellence, she was appointed to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Limited, as External Affairs Director, making her the first female to be so appointed in the history of Shell Petroleum Development Company’s business in Nigeria.

    Past recipients of the NDA Honoris Causa include Ajie Anthony Ukpabi Asika, the pioneer Provost of the NDA and former Administrator of the old East Central State, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, former Vice President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President, General Aliyu Gusau, former National Security Adviser, Gen.
    Theophilus Danjuma, ex Defence Minister and Alhaji Yayale Ahmed the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

    The award is bestowed on deserving Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in public service through exemplary conduct and impeccable leadership attributes.
