Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has released its minimum Nigerian content target for the power sector.

The report which listed a range of equipment that must be bought and maintained in-country, likewise those that would be imported, said equipment used for power generation such as construction of turbine foundations, construction of transformer plinths, construction of control rooms, construction of cable trenches, construction of various foundations and other civil works in power plants, would be fully bought and maintained in-country.

Original Equipment Manufacturer, OEM equipment such as turbines, instrument panels, boilers and pipes, pumps, motors, and others, would largely still be imported until 2040 and beyond.

Stating reason the sector would continue to import most of the OEM equipment for so long, NERC said it recognizes that hi-tech OEM equipment has little scope for national content in the near term. However, it is expected that the maintenance of such equipment has significant scope for national content.
