14 November 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja – Nigeria’s National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has condemned recent allegations that local and international power companies are conducting physical due diligence on the 17 power firms put up for sale by the Federal Government.
It said the development was a breach of the fundamental human right of Nigerians, as due process was not being followed.
The union, therefore, instructed its members to brace for a show down with the government in opposition to the process.
Mr. Joe Ajaero, NUEE General Secretary, said in a statement: “The Government/BPE is undertaking a mysterious due diligence by allocating to their cronies, fronts and some cabal members their due share of what becomes of the elephant they had planned to execute. They are sharing what they think have successfully been looted by them.”
He warned that government’s failure to fulfil agreements reached with labour, before any investor could take over any of the power firms up for sale, would be unaccepted to electricity workers.
