06 June 2012, Sweetcrude, LAGOS –The China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation, operating Nigeria’s Omotosho Power Plant in Ogun State, says the plant is currently generating 120 megawatts of electricity, a boost to the national grid.
Mr. Liu Zhao-Long, Managing Director of the company, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos in an interview.

reports that the 500MW capacity independent power plant was built by CMEC.
Zhao-Long said two out of the four units of the plant were generating the 120MW, which was being fed to the national grid.
“We have added 120MW to the national grid from Omotosho Power Plant phase two. We are doing everything possible to ensure that all the four units come on stream within the stipulated time frame,’’ he said.
Zhao-Long commended the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) for ensuring that the project was completed within the stipulated period.
He said there were lots of challenges confronting the projects, which were being tackled with the support of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) and the Federal Government.
“We are going to ensure that all projects in our custody are completed within the stipulated timeframe. We have well-trained Nigerians and we equally trained some to fit into the system, which is part of our responsibility,’’ he said.
Mr. James Olotu, Managing Director, NDPHC, owners of the NIPP, had on May 24 given an assurance that the Omotosho plant would come on stream shortly.
