Port Harcourt — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd, has strengthened its safety compliance framework with the launch of a new set of Life-Saving Rules, signalling what the company describes as a renewed commitment to operational discipline, workforce protection, and its long-standing Goal Zero aspiration.
The initiative, unveiled during the corporation’s 2025 Health, Safety, and Environment, HSE Week, was announced by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, who said the rules are designed to eliminate high-risk behaviours and strengthen safety culture across all NNPC locations.
“These Life-Saving Rules represent our uncompromising commitment to protecting lives and safeguarding our assets. Every employee, every contractor, and every stakeholder must understand them, live them, and share them,” Ojulari said during the launch.
He explained that the newly introduced framework outlines mandatory safety actions in critical operational areas, including bypassing safety controls, confined space entry, driving, energy isolation, hot work, line of fire, mechanical lifting, work authorisation, and working at heights.
According to him, strict adherence to these rules remains central to delivering safe, efficient, and world-class operations within Nigeria’s integrated energy value chain.
“We cannot achieve operational excellence without disciplined compliance. These rules are not optional, they are fundamental to how we work and how we protect our people,” he stated.
NNPC Ltd noted that its Goal Zero target; zero fatalities, zero injuries, and zero incidents, remains a cornerstone of its operational philosophy, and the new rules are expected to further strengthen that objective.
The corporation said the HSE Week provides an annual opportunity to evaluate safety performance, reinforce best practices, and recommit to global standards in risk management.
“Know the Rules. Live the Rules. Share the Rules. That is the only way we can collectively uphold the safety culture we are building,” the GCEO declared.
