Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, has blamed the Federal Government on the ongoing scarcity of premium motor spirits, otherwise known as fuel, in the country.

Chairman of NUPENG, Port Harcourt Zone, Comrade Mina Samuel, said failure of the federal government to make the product available was responsible for the increase in pump price of PMS.

Samuel appealed to relevant government agencies involved in the importation of petrol to ensure availability of the product in depots across the country.

He also lamented the unavailability of PMS was greatly affecting work and also making it difficult to convey petroleum products.

“Fuel scarcity is not caused by NUPENG. Basically, the problem is the Federal Government.

“The Federal Government has to provide fuel. Meaning that if fuel is available, it is the duty of NUPENG to transport it.

“For us, the scarcity is also affecting us because we need to perform our duty,” NUPENG said.
