Lagos — Heirs Energies has launched the Agbada Green Corridor Initiative, a large-scale tree-planting programme aimed at strengthening climate resilience, enhancing biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability across its operations in Rivers State.
The initiative was unveiled along the Agbada Non-Associated Gas (NAG) Corridor in Omuohia community and brought together officials from the Rivers State Ministry of Environment, the OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT), community leaders, environmental stakeholders and employees of the company.
The project forms part of Heirs Energies’ broader environmental, social and governance strategy, reinforcing its commitment to balancing energy production with environmental protection.
Speaking at the launch, Senior Vice President of Production, Bola Bode, who represented the Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Energies, Osa Igiehon, said the initiative reflects the company’s determination to create long-term value for both host communities and the environment.
“As we continue to grow production and expand our oil and gas business, we recognise that our success is closely linked to the wellbeing of our host communities and the health of the environment in which we operate. The Agbada Green Corridor Initiative is one expression of our commitment to responsible operations and sustainable development,” he said.
Bode noted that environmental stewardship remains a critical pillar of the company’s growth strategy, adding that sustainable energy development and ecological preservation must go hand in hand.
The tree-planting exercise was carried out in partnership with the Rivers State Ministry of Environment and the Self Help and Rural Development Association (SHERDA), with support from the OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust and other community stakeholders.
Industry observers say the initiative aligns with growing calls for energy companies operating in Nigeria to invest more heavily in climate action, ecosystem restoration and community-centred sustainability projects.
As Nigeria intensifies efforts to balance economic growth with its climate commitments, projects such as the Agbada Green Corridor Initiative are increasingly being viewed as practical steps towards reducing environmental impact while fostering stronger relationships between operators and host communities.
