Port Harcourt — The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has reaffirmed her commitment to advancing gender inclusion in Nigeria’s energy and maritime sectors.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary of the Women in Maritime and Energy, WIME Awards in Lagos, Eyesan pledged sustained support for women-focused initiatives across the industries.

“In my capacity as Commission Chief Executive of the NUPRC, I reaffirm my personal commitment to this cause,” she said. “I stand not only as a supporter but as an active ally, ensuring that its impact is felt across policy and practice.”

She noted that while progress has been made, women remain significantly underrepresented, particularly in upstream oil and gas operations.

“Structural and cultural barriers continue to limit participation,” Eyesan stated, highlighting the need for deliberate policies to close the gap.

According to her, the Commission is aligning with federal government priorities by promoting diversity in licensing, workforce participation, and stakeholder engagement.

She added that efforts are also being intensified to build capacity for women in technical roles within the sector.

Eyesan called for targeted financial and institutional support to accelerate inclusion.

“There is a need for innovative solutions, including dedicated financing windows, gender-focused investment funds, and long-term frameworks to support women-led enterprises,” she said.
