Port Harcourt — Nigeria’s oil production capacity has received a major boost as Oriental Energy Resources Limited successfully completed the sail away of its EMEM Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading, FPSO, vessel from Dubai to the Okwok Field in Akwa Ibom State, a milestone hailed by the Federal Government as a demonstration of confidence in the nation’s petroleum sector.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, described the achievement as “a powerful demonstration of confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” commending Oriental Energy for its innovation, resilience, and operational excellence.
“The sail away of the EMEM FPSO is not merely the launch of a facility; it is a powerful demonstration of confidence in our petroleum sector and a reflection of the innovation and strategic foresight of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, driving our industry’s renewal,” Lokpobiri said.
He noted that the new facility, once fully operational, will significantly raise Oriental Energy’s daily output, strengthening Nigeria’s overall production target.
“It will definitely drive an increase in their production capacity from the 10,000 barrels per day that they are currently on, to about 40,000 barrels per day,” the Minister stated.
Lokpobiri emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting indigenous oil producers through progressive policies and partnerships aimed at enhancing energy security, job creation, and sustainable growth.
“The Federal Government remains steadfast in supporting independent operators through enabling policies and partnerships that foster growth, enhance energy security, and create enduring value for Nigeria,” he assured.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who participated in the sail away ceremony, lauded Oriental Energy for its contribution to local economic development and reaffirmed the state’s support for the project.
“This project will not only strengthen our state’s position in the oil and gas sector but also create employment and business opportunities for our people,” Eno said.
The EMEM FPSO will serve Oriental Energy’s Petroleum Mining Lease, PML15, operations in the Okwok Field, offshore Akwa Ibom State. The vessel, named after the Ibibio word for “peace,” represents a major milestone in the company’s expansion of indigenous deepwater capabilities.
The deployment of the EMEM FPSO underscores growing confidence among local operators to execute world-class projects, even amid global energy transition pressures.
With the addition of the EMEM FPSO to Nigeria’s offshore fleet, Oriental Energy is expected to deepen its investment in technology, human capital, and environmental sustainability, reinforcing Nigeria’s ambition to optimize oil production while fostering indigenous participation.
